The Commissioner for National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps (NSPC) Ms Hellen Seku led a group of more than 100 musicians including the Uganda Musicians Federation President Eddy Kenzo who converged at State House, Entebbe, to meet President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Wednesday, 21st August 2024.

Notable musicians Bebe Cool and Jose Chameleone were among the attendees, who were eager to engage with the President on matters of mutual interest.

“The government is committed to supporting the music industry, and we believe that you musicians can play a crucial role in disseminating our wealth creation message,” President Museveni said.

“Use your songs to inspire Ugandans to work towards poverty alleviation and improved livelihoods”, he added.

Commissioner Seku’s initiative paved the way for a fruitful discussion, with President Museveni advising musicians to embrace patriotism and craft constructive songs that contribute to Uganda’s development.

“Be patriotic and compose songs that uplift our nation,” he urged.

President Museveni also directed Commissioner Seku to organize patriotism and ideological training for musicians before the end of this year.

On his part, Eddy Kenzo, President of the Uganda Musicians Federation, appreciated the President’s support, saying, “We are grateful for your willingness to engage with us, Mr. President. We have no protection on our artistic intellectual works, and we request that you expedite the process of passing the copyright law.”

The meeting addressed pressing concerns, including the need for copyright law protection and the importance of advocating for politics of interest over identity-based politics.

“Let’s focus on politics of interest, not identity-based politics that can lead to underdevelopment and hatred,” President Museveni cautioned.

Ministers Betty Amongi and Peace Mutuuzo were also in attendance, underscoring the government’s commitment to socioeconomic transformation in Uganda.”

Since assuming the helm of National Patriotism in January, Ms. Seku has revitalized the department in just a few short months. She has mobilized and trained thousands of individuals, including secondary school students, teachers, headteachers, national patriotism coordinators, and ordinary citizens such as Boda Boda riders. Notably, her efforts led to a reduction in license fees for Boda Boda riders, a request she presented to the President on their behalf.

Recently, Ms. Seku expanded her patriotism training program to include medical intern doctors at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi. Her nationwide tours have emphasized core patriotism values, including loyalty to the country. In line with Article 17(2) of the Constitution, which mandates military training for all able-bodied citizens to defend the country and its Constitution, Ms. Seku’s initiatives ensure that facilities are available for such training, fostering a sense of national duty and responsibility.

On April 20th 2024, President Museveni Launched another Seku ‘s sole initiative dubbed the National Patriotism Environmental Protection Campaign which aims at planting millions of trees with edible fruits in a bid to protect environment, eradicate poverty and promoting wealth creation through Patriotism.
