The Rakai Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Sarah Kiyimba was compelled to send District Service Commission Chairman Mr. Mpuuga David into police custody on Thursday, August 29, 2024, following a series of public complaints related to severe abuse of office and corruption.
Rakai has been in the news severally over stinking graft which has in the past seen some senior officials interdicted.
Mpuuga, who is currently detained at Rakai Central Police Station is the latest on the list of big names to have been caught on the wrong side of the law on similar accusations.
The fate of the man who many accuse of shameless greed was sealed following the storming of the RDCs office by an angry parent who accuses the Mpuuga-led commission of extorting money to the tune of UGX twenty million with a fake promise of a top government job to his son which never came to pass.
Mr Mujuzi Moses, a Primary School teacher in Rakai, the DSC boss called him and demanded Shillings Twenty Million and assured him the job would be for his son. Unfortunately, even after borrowing a loan to wet the beaks of the commissioners, the job was still given to someone else. This infuriated him to threaten he would pitch camp at the commission to ensure his son got the job he bought. This prompted RDC Kiyimba to intervene and cause the arrest of the errant Commission Chair.
“My son who was scammed is Ssemyaalo Julius. Now I want to know if jobs in this district are meant to be sold to the highest bidder. Why would you charge someone so exorbitantly and deny them the job at the end of the day!” Lamented a disgruntled parent who threatened to pitch camp at the District headquarters until he got the job he paid for.
A female member of the district council decried the shameless appetite for money by the Service Commission which she said has sadly deprived many youth of jobs as only those with the ability to pay exorbitantly can access jobs in the district.
Kiyimba, who has for long been at the centre of the bitter war to cleanse Rakai has retaliated her commitment to leave no stone unturned, urging those with no respect for public money to throw in towels and embark on less risky ventures like farming.
She warned that there will not be any mercy for corrupt officials in Rakai going forward, warning that whoever has had their hands dirtied should expect the karma.
