Members of Parliament of the eleventh Parliament have voted to deduct 300,000 shillings from their salaries to support the family and children of Mohammed Ssegirinya.
This resolution was passed in a Special sitting of Parliament that was held to pay tribute to Ssegirinya, the fallen legislator of Kawempe North in Kampala on Friday 10th January 2025.
The motion was raised by PWDs MPs Mpindi Bumali who proposed that the MPs pay 500,000 each from their salaries but after debate, it was resolved that 300,000 shillings he paid by each MP. The proposal of paying 300,000 was raised by Busambala District Woman MP Aisha Kabanda and supported by all Members of Parliament.
With over 529 MPs in the eleventh Parliament, this will total to 158,700,000 shillings which will be given to support the family of Ssegirinya.
Other entities like Parliamentary Pensions Scheme also contributed 2 million shillings among others.
The Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among directed the Clerk to Parliament to take note of that Parliamentary resolution. That means that the Finance Department of Parliament will deduct this money from the MPs emoluments.
Ssegirinya breathed his last on the 9th Jan 2025 at Nsambya Hospital where he has been receiving treatment for a long time since he was discharged from the United States of America.
