Kampala, Uganda – A somber cloud hung over Kampala on Monday as family, friends, and dignitaries gathered to bid farewell to Rajiv Ruparelia, the only son of business mogul Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, who tragically passed away following a motor accident on Saturday.

Rajiv, aged 35, was cremated at the Hindu Crematorium Grounds in Lugogo in a solemn ceremony steeped in Indian tradition and Hindu religious rites. The cremation, marked by traditional prayers and rituals, was attended by thousands of mourners, most clad in white—a color symbolizing purity and mourning in Indian culture.

The body of the late Rajiv was moved from the Ruparelia residence in Kololo by A-Plus Funeral Services and driven in a convoy to the cremation site, where close friends, family, and members of the business community gathered to pay their last respects.

Rajiv was more than just an heir to a billion-dollar empire. He was a businessman, philanthropist, and visionary in his own right, serving as Managing Director of the Ruparelia Group’s real estate arm and a key player in expanding the family business empire into new territories.

The funeral service included emotional tributes, prayers, and chants as family members and spiritual leaders led the final rites. According to Hindu tradition, cremation symbolizes the release of the soul from the physical body and its return to the spiritual realm.

He is survived by his wife and a 3-year-old daughter. His untimely death leaves a deep void not only in the Ruparelia family but also in Uganda’s business and social landscape.
