Mitooma District – Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa has praised 90-year-old Canon Rev. James K. Mutazihana as a shining example of the benefits of a disciplined and purposeful life, urging Ugandans to take greater responsibility for their health and lifestyle choices.

Tayebwa made the remarks yesterday during a thanksgiving ceremony held in Bitereko Sub-County, Ruhinda North Constituency, to honor Canon Mutazihana’s 90th birthday and lifetime of service.

“What we eat, what we drink, and how we live will shape our well-being for many years to come,” Tayebwa said. “Canon Mutazihana is a powerful example of this truth. At 90, he remains healthy and strong—a testament to a life of integrity, service, and self-discipline.”

Canon Mutazihana, who served the Church of Uganda for four decades (1960–2000), was the pioneer Dean of Bweranyangyi Deanery and the first Archdeacon of Kigarama Archdeaconry. Known for his devotion, he never smoked or drank alcohol, prioritized education for his children, and upheld a deep commitment to spiritual and community service.

Tayebwa, who has maintained a close relationship with the Canon, described him as “more than a parent” and someone who has consistently supported him through prayer and mentorship.

“As we celebrated his life, we were reminded that aging well is not an accident but the result of choices made daily. Canon Mutazihana is a living example from whom we should all learn,” Tayebwa added.

The ceremony was attended by family, friends, and community members who turned up to honor the legacy of a man who has touched many lives through his faith and leadership.
