For months now, (even in the corridors of power) there had been whispers and speculation that President Yoweri Museveni was set to through in the towel and not seek re-election come 2026. Well, not anymore. All that was nipped in the bud and quietened down by the Bazzukulu storm (Kibuyaga w’abazzukulu) that raged on 19th October 2022 at the NRM National Chairman’s office at Kyamboggo.
The Bazzukulu (a political pressure group under the coordination and leadership of Ms. Hadijah Uzeiye) the Special Personal Assistant in charge of the Kyamboggo-based office of the NRM National Chairman) pulled off a well organised event with a massive turn up with good media coverage where they did not mince words, rather spoke boldly when they “commanded, instructed and ordered” their Jjajja (Grand Father M7) to not branch off the main road ;
“Jjajja omalako tokyaama ku main” they asserted.
With a simple, but clear and bold message like that, coming from such a crucial political constituency, with good coordination and perfect timing, like the saying goes, “if you know, you know what’s up!”
Politically telling, is the fact that, the massive and well coordinated Bazzukulu endorsement event took place at the NRM National Chairman’s office under the stewardship of Ms Hadijah Uzeiye, that in effect means it was with the knowledge, consent and approval of President Museveni.
Politically significant is the choice of political rhetolic that characterised the Bazzukulu message. For starters, the movement is a bus, and the bus driver is M7. So, when the Bazzukulu (whom M7 has all along been aware of) to endorse his 2026 candidature, and they are a grassroots, countrywide network of youthful and energetic political vigilantees, you know the time is up for NUP. If NUP was called a wave Bazzukulu are a counter force, so brace yourself.
