Breaking News, Nyombi Thembo appointed UCC Executive Director

Former Minister for Luwero Triangle George William Nyombi Thembo has been appointed as the Executive Director for Uganda Communications Commission replacing Irene Sewankambo who has been acting in that capacity. The position fell vacant in 2020 when the 10 year tenure of Eng Godfrey Mutabazi came to an end after serving for 20 years. Since  2020, Irene Sewankambo who was the Director of Engineering and Infrastructure at the Uganda Communications Commission has since been acting in that position until Nyombi Thembo was appointed as the substantive Director.

Nyombi Thembo, 59 served as a member of Parliament for Kasanda South in Mubende between 2001 and 2011, he also served as a State Minister f0r Education (Primary Education) in 2001 and later appointed as Minister for Luwero Triangle and later as a state Minister for ICT before he was dropped in 2012

He attended Lubiri Secondary School in Kampala, for his A-Level education. Thembo Nyombi graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Makerere University. He holds a diploma in project planning and management from Bradford University in the United Kingdom  and a postgraduate diploma in financial management from Uganda Management Institute, (UMU) in Uganda and a masters degree in Development Economics from Uganda Management Institute.

Prior to his appointment, Nyombi Thembo has been serving as a Director for the Rural Development Communication Fund (RCDF) at the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) a program that has seen hundreds of schools get computers and ICT infrastructure.
