Buganda , Bunyoro and Toro Kingdoms will get 10 billion for land compensation from government in the recently passed supplementary budget that was passed by Parliament. The money is a compensation for the Kingdom land that was taken over by government since 1966 when the kingdoms were abolished by President Milton Obote. Most of the land which used to house administrative units of the kingdoms was taken over by government most of it occupies headquarters of sub counties and districts.

The 10 billion was given to the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development to effect these compensations. Buganda and Toro Kingdoms will get 3 billion each while Bunyoro Kindom will get 4 billion. According to one of the Ministers of Buganda Kingdom who declined anonymity, this was a good gesture by government and he thanked parliament for passing this supplementary budget saying that Kingdom work is going to move on smoothly, “we had budgeted for this money and it is going to help us run Kingdom affairs” he said.
