Commissioner of National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps (NSPC) -State House Hellen Seku, urged the youth to cultivate a deep love for Uganda and national pride emphasizing that Uganda is our sole motherland.

She emphasized that it is therefore incumbent upon every citizen, especially the youth, to love and cherish Uganda wholeheartedly by also appreciating, East Africa and the broader African continent, fostering a sense of regional unity and Pan-Africanism.

“I encourage you to love yourselves, love Uganda,East Africa and Africa as a whole because by doing so, we shall be sure of a shared market of our products with our neighboring sister countries ,” said Seku.

She added that “For me I love my country and I can never get ashamed to express my pride that am a Ugandan but most importantly, I am proud of the government I have witnessed from childhood to where am today. I keep wondering why some Africans hate their natural colors yet we are black beauty,”said Seku

Seku who is also the Private Secretary for Youth Affairs to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, made the remarks while delivering a lecture of opportunity to 200 youth from districts of Kasanda, Mityana, Mubende and Kampala. The youth  are currently participating in an ideological orientation and patriotism development training course at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi.

Citing Nelson Mandela’s “Long Walk to Freedom,” Seku noted that if hate can be taught, love can also be taught which also reflects the idea that hatred is not an innate human emotion but rather a learned behavior adding that if humans can be conditioned to hate, they can as well be conditioned to love.

She urged the youth to cultivate love, sacrifice, service, pride, and loyalty to Uganda, thereby promoting a sense of patriotism and national pride commending the progress achieved under the current government.

Seku also cautioned against adopting foreign cultures without critically evaluating the impact on African identity and national pride.

“The whites vowed to make us ideologically empty and culturally naked, make us suffer from inferiority complexes, mental inferiority, and lose self-confidence. Yet we are intelligent people and wiser than them. But I’m here to assure and encourage you that our time is now to wake up and have our eyes open as Ugandans and Africans; let us think like patriots who love and respect our country and cultural heritage.” she emphasized.
