Ibrahim Kitatta, the current LC5 Chairperson for Lwengo District, has been officially nominated to contest in the Bukoto West Parliamentary race under the NRM party internal structures.

Kitatta was duly nominated on Tuesday by the NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, who congratulated him on reaching this milestone in the party’s electoral process.

Speaking after his nomination, Kitatta expressed a strong desire to be part of the country’s decision-making processes, highlighting several challenges facing his constituency.

“In the 21st century, we are still sharing water sources with animals,” he said.

“Our health centres and hospitals lack essential medicine. The roads are in a poor state although some work is being done, they are still using murram instead of tarmac. I believe I am the perfect person to make real improvement”, said Kitatta.

Kitatta also emphasized the need to reorganize administrative units to improve service delivery.

Kitatta noted that some subcounties are too large to manage effectively, and several newly created ones do not even have a single secondary school. He criticized the current parliamentary leadership, saying, “We have a Member of Parliament whose only duty seems to be occupying a seat in Parliament, with no real impact on the lives of the people.”

He promised that, if elected, he would ensure greater oversight of government programs, more effective representation in Parliament, and a stronger voice for the people of Bukoto West. He also pledged to better represent all members of the NRM party both young and old saying he believes he is the right person to unite and advocate for them.

In Bukoto Midwest Constituency, Vincent Birimuye, the current Deputy LC5 Chairperson for Lwengo District, was also nominated. Birimuye criticized the sitting MP, Isaac Ssejjoba, claiming he has remained silent on the floor of Parliament and failed to deliver services to the people.

“I believe I am the right replacement. I will be the voice of the voiceless and push for the services our people deserve,” said Birimuye.

Also nominated were former Minister Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye for Sheema North Constituency, Annet Nabirye for Luuka District who will face off against former Minister for the Presidency Esther Mbayoand Sarah Kataike, who is contesting for Woman MP in Budaka District.

The trio who are top leaders in Lwengo district have been duly nominated to run for different constituencies in the district.

Parliamentary elections for all nominated candidates will take place on July 16, 2025. Voters will cast their support by lining up behind the candidate of their choice.
