Parliament was filled with jubilation and excitement as Speaker Annet Anita Among made her triumphant return to office following several months of maternity leave, during which she was blessed with the arrival of twins.

Draped in a blue attire, Speaker Among graced the premises around 11:00 AM, greeted by ecstatic cheers and enthusiastic embraces from fellow Members of Parliament. Some MPs, who were en route to monitor government programs as assigned by the Deputy Speaker, eagerly joined in the celebration as they were seen waving at her through windows of the costs bus in the Parliamentary packing.

In a heartfelt message posted on her Twitter account, Speaker Among expressed her elation and gratitude for the warm and affectionate welcome she received. “Thrilled to resume official duties today amid the warm reception from my esteemed colleagues and dedicated staff in the august halls of Parliament. I extend my deepest thanks for your prayers and the outpouring of love during my absence, as the Almighty blessed us with the arrival of our precious twins”.

Several MPs, including Felex Okot Ogong (Dokolo South), Michael Mwanda (Igara East), who also serves as the MK Movement Chairperson, Sarah Opendi, (Tororo District Woman MP), and Geoffrey Macho (Busia Municipality), were among those who eagerly welcomed Speaker Anita Among back to her role with immense enthusiasm.

Speaker Among also expressed her gratitude to her Deputy, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, who efficiently and steadfastly managed Parliament’s affairs during her absence. “I am profoundly grateful to my dear brother, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, for competently holding the fort. May the Almighty continue to bestow abundant blessings upon you all,” she tweeted.

Anita Among commenced her maternity leave in September, and her absence from the public eye was marked by her Deputy’s stewardship of parliamentary affairs. She and her husband, Moses Magogo, who also serves as the Budiope East MP, celebrated the joyous arrival of twins a few weeks ago.
