Judiciary gets Sh432b in the 2024/25 Government allocation to expedite Justice administration

The Government has allocated Sh432.440b in the 2024/25 national budget for Administration of Justice.

The funds are to help the Judiciary with case backlog with the Supreme Court expected to handle at least 120 cases, Court of Appeal 989 cases, Anti-Corruption Division 320,  Civil Division 2,100, Commercial Division 3,300.

Criminal Division 2,280, Family Division 7,392, Land Division 7000, and the International Crimes Division 100 within the year (2024/25).

The funds will further enable the Judiciary to procure Furniture for; 6 Justices of the Supreme Court, 6 new Judges and 5 Registrars.

The Judiciary will also use part of the funds to buy 70 vehicles for 10 Judges of the High Court, 10 Deputy Registrars, 40 Chief Magistrates and 10 Grade One Magistrates; the institutions plans to procure two (02) boats for Courts in Islands areas like Buvuma and Kalangala.

Judiciary has for a long time faced a challenge of case backlog but with the government 2024/25 allocation, the institution is set to tackle this challenge to ensure expeditious administration of Justice.

The Judiciary has projected that High Court Circuits will handle at least 17,236 cases in 2024/25 while the Magistrate Courts will expedite 216,228 cases.

An average of 1,896 prisoners would be delivered to courts, 15,000 remand inmates are expected to be linked to criminal justice actors and 300 cases of Labour disputes are expected to be handled at the Industrial Court.
