Dr Nicholas Kamara, the Kabale Municipality Member of Parliament who doubles as the Chairperson Parliamentary Committee on Non Communicable Diseases has announced a new program codenamed
“Know Yourself”/ “Buri Omwe Ayemanye” aimed at offering free screening/testing services services for Non Communicable Diseases for the people in Kabale Municipality.
Kamara made the revelation last week at All Saints Church in Kabale during a requiem mass for the late Atwine Loyce, the fallen wife to former Kabale Mayoral Aspirant Muhanguzi Richard.
The initiative aims to provide free screening and testing services for critical health conditions, including diabetes, hypertension, sickle cell anemia, and various cancers, for both men and women in the area.
Speaking about the program, Kamara emphasized the importance of early detection and health awareness in combating these diseases. “Some of these diseases, like diabetes, can be prevented if people have the right information and know their status. Similarly, cancers can be cured if detected early. Routine medical check-ups are necessary, and the ‘Know Yourself’ Program will address all these issues,” he explained.
The program will also offer counseling and medical advice to individuals, equipping them with the knowledge needed to make informed health decisions. By prioritizing preventive care, Kamara aims to reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases in the community and save countless lives.
As Kamara positions himself for the MP seat for 2026–2031, this initiative underscores his commitment to improving the welfare of Kabale residents. Kamara has positioned himself as the best MP in Kigezi sub region when it comes to championing for good health care. He has donated 4 ultra sound scans to Rushoroza Hospital, Kamukira Health Centre 4, Kirigime Health Centre and Rugarama Hospitals. He also championed for the procurement of a CT scan for Kabale Regional Referral Hospital on top of upgrading of various health facilities. Kamara is on record for having twice hosted the World Diabetes Day in which over 3000 people have benefited through free testing services and medical advice.
The program is set to kick off soon, with Kamara calling on residents to take advantage of the free services to safeguard their health.
