Bukoto South MP Dr Twaha Kagabo has defended his decision to meet with President Museveni during the NRM Caucus meeting at State House, and asked Ugandans who questioned his political allegiance to National Unity Platform (NUP) to pray for wisdom from God to enable them stop mixing-up issues of meeting the President with party politics.an opposition MP belonging to the National Unity Platform Party.

Kagabo made the remarks during an interface with journalists at Parliament, who had sought out to understand what he had discussed with the President and if he had crossed from Opposition to NRM.

However, Kagabo’s meeting with President Museveni received mixed reactions within the NRM, with Felix Okot (Dokolo South) MP describing it as a betrayal and warned that the crisscrossing of Opposition MPs to NRM isn’t healthy for multi-party democracy in Uganda.

Fekex Okot Going the Dokolo MP was one of the MPs who accused Kagabo calling him a betrayer.

“I don’t like betrayers, you betray your own system, you have to be straight because you are in a multi-party dispensation not that you are in opposition you are doing a bad thing. We are here to serve the nation, not everyone should come to Government, we would have made Uganda a one party state if you don’t like other parties, so if we are a multi-party, other parties should exist and collectively, we work for the country,” remarked Okot.

However the Arua Central MP Jackson Otima welcomed Kagabo to the NRM.

“If Kagabo is joining NRM from NUP, this tells you that NUP is phasing off, NUP has lost popularity, it speaks volumes that NRM is gaining momentum, NRM is gaining popularity, NUP is phasing out so I encourage them to come because NRM has a big bus that welcomes them. So, we thank the Chairman of the Party for having an open-door policy for those transferring from the Opposition to NRM, we welcome them warmly.” said Jackson Atima (Arua Central) MP (NRM).
