Museveni Signs Five New Laws!

The President of Uganda Gen Yoweri Kaguta Museveni assented to 5 bills that were passed by Parliament in 2023.

The communication was made by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament the Rt Hon Thomas Tayebwa during a Plenary session held on Tuesday.

The Bills that were assented to included the recently passed Civil Aviation (Amendment) Act,2024 that seeks to operationalize Civil Aviation Authority to match the global standards.

Others bills included Judicature (Amendment) Act, 2023, Explosives Act, 2023, Narcotics & Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act 2023, The Competition Act, 2023.

According to the Constitution, the President signs the bill passed by Parliament before it becomes a law. In a situation where he doesn’t sign, the bill is returned to Parliament with comments on which causes to be revised before again being returned to the President. If the bill is returned three times without being signed or if the President doesn’t respond in 30 days after the bill is brought to him for signing, then the bill automatically becomes a law
