Parliament approves Bamugemerire & Mugenyi as judges of Supreme Court!

The Appointments Commitee has approved Justices Catherine Bamugemerire and Monica Mugenyi as justices of Supreme Court which is the highest court in Uganda.

The Appointments Commitee which was chaired by the Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Anita Annet Among sat on Thursday Jan 2024 at the Speakers Chambers. The meeting was also attended by the Leader of Opposition in Parliament the Hon Joel Ssenyonyi.

The Constitution gives Parliament a duty to vet Presentation appointees who include the High Court Judges, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court Judges.

After appointment, the report is submitted to the President who is the appointing authority. Both Bamugemerire and Mugenyi have been serving in the Court of Appeal before being elevated to justices of Supreme Court
