Parliament of Uganda is set to receive a report on the controversial 71-man delegation that went to attend the 78th United Nations General Assembly and the Sustainable Development Goals Conference that was held in September 2023. The two delegations were led by the Vice President Jesca Alupo and the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja who both went to attend 78th United Nations General Assembly that was held in New York.

According to the order paper released by Parliament on Tuesday morning, the Minister of Foreign Affairs is going to give a report on the said trip where 71 government officials reportedly travelled to the New York to attend the said conferences.

Reports indicate that about 2 billion shillings was spent on the trip which raised concerns by Ugandans over such extravagant spending by government amidst the economic hardships in the country. Members of Parliament from both opposition and ruling parties raised concerns over the matter and the Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa who presided over the house ordered the Minister of Foreign Affairs to present a statement on the matter.

Parliament is mandated to check government excesses and the Eleventh Parliament has been credited for doing this job through putting the executive on spot over various decisions.
