Parliament vets Electoral Commission nominees

The Appointments Committee, chaired by Speaker, Rt Hon Anitah Annet Among, has today vetted presidential nominees to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

Two weeks back, President Museveni appointed the Commissioners led by Hon Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama to manage and run IEC operations ahead of the 2026 general elections.

The Opposition was up in arms claiming that the nominees are all cadres of the ruling Naational Resistance Movement (NRM) and that it will not be impartial and Independent.

The nominees are; Justice Simon Byamukama(Chairperson), Hajjati Aisha Lubega(Deputy), James Emorut, Stephen Tashobya, Anthony Okello, Simba Ssali Caroline Bainamaryo and Robert Kasule Ssebunya.
