The Director of CID, Tom  Magambo, has revealed that they know the individuals who hired Joan Kagezi’s killers.

Senior prosecutor Joan Kagezi was murdered on 30th March 2015 at Kiwatule as she was going to her home after work.

Magambo informed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni that they have significant clues leading to the financiers and masterminds behind Joan Kagezi’s murder and promised to disclose them to him for guidance.

This revelation came after the President tasked Magambo with updating him on the progress of the investigations into Joan Kagezi’s murder during her Memorial lecture at Kololo Independence Grounds.

According to Museveni, the murderers of Kagezi miscalculated and they now have them in the state Custody and others have already been killed in Democratic Rebublic of Congo under their terrorist organization the Allied Democratic Forces.

The president commended the Office of the DPP for consistently honoring the legacy of Joan Kagezi but advised institutions to always support the families of patriots who die in the line of duty.

He noted that despite the various threats Joan Kagezi received from her killers, it did not deter her from continuing to serve her country.

On her part Director of Public Prosecutions Jane Frances Abodo highlighted both the achievements and challenges faced by her office, including understaffing.

She informed the President that 34 districts lack prosecutors and  103 districts  don’t full time prosecutors, leading to case backlogs.

Following Joan Kagezi’s murder, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions deemed it appropriate to annually honor her legacy for the remarkable work she did in ensuring criminal justice prevailed in the country.

At the time of her death, Joan Kagezi was prosecuting a terrorism case related to the 2010 Kampala twin bombings at Lugogo and Kabalagala Ethiopia Village, which resulted in over 70 deaths.

The 7th Joan Kagezi Memorial Lecture was attended by various dignitaries, including the Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, Justice Minister Nobert Mao, Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo, Deputy Chief Justice Richard Buteera, High Court judges, and development partners, among others.
