Speaker of Parliament the Rt Hon Anitah Among revealed that some Speakers who had earlier confirmed attending the Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSCOP) refused to attend, due to Uganda’s passing into law the Anti-Homosexuality Act 2023.
“We have Speakers who feared to come because of the law that we made. We don’t kill anyone who is a homosexual. We don’t reject people who come here because they are homosexuals but we only respect what we passed. We respect our values. We respect our traditions as a country said Anita Among.
Sources say that over 40 countries had confirmed attendence but later 33 turned up for the conference. However according to the Chairman Organizing Committee Hon Abdul Katuntu, this turn up was good as it has been a similar attendence according to the previous meetings in other countries
