Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa has asked Clerk to Parliament to expunge from the hansards, remarks made by Ibrahim Ssemujju the Kira Municipality MP that President Museveni pays school fees worth Shs700,000 per term for some students in Kanyaryeru Secondary School in Kiruhura district, yet government is paying only Shs10,000 annually for each UPE student, after Ssemujju failed to table evidence to back up his claims.
“When you become very specific about certain matters then it is very important for our record to show that the statement you made in this house is backed up by evidence. So Hon. Ssemujju isn’t able to be with us his statement, I have received very many calls with regard to the same and disputing what he said for now, until he brings that evidence and he tables that matter I order the clerk to expunge his statements yesterday from the record of Parliament in as far as Kanyaryeru Senior Secondary School is concerned,” said
During a heated debate about Uganda’s education sector yesterday, Ssemujju alleged that Parliament’s Education Committee had authored a report noting the disparities of fees paid by President Museveni for students in Kiruhura district and that of other students on UPE and USE programmes. However, two MPs rejected these allegations, prompting Deputy Speaker to ask Ssemujju to table before Parliament the said report, but he wasn’t in attendance during Thursdays plenary when the latest directive was issued.
The Isingiro South MP Alex Bakunda Byarugaba who said that he was the Chief Administrative Officer Mbarara District when Kanyaryeru Secondary School was built said that it was constructed as a seed School and that it gets money like other government aided schools
