Team University came to Kamwenge in the year 2021 after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Kamwenge Educational Training Institute an initiative of James Birungi Ozo, a former aspirant for MP Kibale County in Kamwenge Disrict and to date the University has provided learning to several students especially the less privilaged who may not afford Universities in Kampala and public servants who want to upgrade with their studies.

The said Kamwenge Educational Training Institute provided land and space for the University to operate while the University management did the teaching and other operations. However according to sources, the area MP Eng Cuthbert Mirembe who also was the Vice Chairperson Education Committee of Parliament influenced the National Council for Higher Education, which cancelled the said study center, however the University went ahead to clear with the NCHE and students continued learning.

When our reporter contacted Ozo, he told our reporter that indeed Hon Cuthbert had tried to sabotage the University, “I cant deny the fact that he (Hon Cuthbert) tried to fight the University using his position but we defeated him because the people of Kamwenge know what they want” Ozo said.  He added that  he is happy that the students are graduating and his vision has been achieved, “as a leader, am happy that my vision is coming into reality because many of our youth, public servants and other people can access quality education at an affordable cost” Ozo was quoted.

A number of  leaders and activists applauded Ozo for bringing them a University which has helped them access education at a small cost. Most of the beneficiaries of this University branch.  Attempts to reach Cuthbert for a comment were futile as he couldn’t answer our calls
