The leader of Opposition in Parliament Hon Mathias Mpuuga has said that their return to Parliament as Opposition MPs is for a short while as they are going to go back in what he called ‘safe bankers”. Mpuuga said these words in his communication to the August House during a debate to pay tribute to the veteran politician Joyce Mpanga on Tuesday after noon. Mpanga was the first woman to join the legislative Council (LEGCO) which was then the Parliament and also was the first woman to be appointed a Minister for Education.

Mathias Mpuuga led the opposition out of Parliament for the last two weeks demanding that they can only return when the Government brings a comprehensive report regarding the 18 missing persons who are alleged to have been kidnapped by security forces. The return of the opposition in Parliament had brought some relief in Parliament only for the Leader of opposition to indicate that they had come to the house only for the debate on Joyce Mpanga who they described as an icon in the politics of this country and woman emancipation!

Mpuuga said that they would not return until further notice, “for her legacy and great contribution to our nation,  the opposition has momentarily returned to the house for this special seating, given her strong advocacy and impeccable record in the realm of rule of law and respect of human rights and  freedoms” Mpuuga said adding that they will return to their clean bankers until further notice”
