The High Court in Kampala has set  May 21st 2024  to deliver a ruling in a second bail application filed by Molly Katanga  a widow who allegedly murdered her husband Henry Katanga .

The 55 year old  is currently on remand at Luzira women’s prison awaiting trial on the July 2nd for the shooting of her husband Katanga which occured  on  November  2nd 2023.

However she says she needs to attend her trial while coming from home hence making a second attempt to be released on bail after the first one was rejected on the 9th/ April for not attaching a medical report from Luzira prison.

This time around , the jailed widow has attached a medical report from prison where doctors examined her and concluded that she suffers from grave illness that cannot be ably handled by medical facilities in prison.

According to the report dated April 15th /2024, the Doctors at Luzira prison found out that Molly Katanga suffers from nausal sinusitis, Vertigo- a sensational motion or spinning  breast masses and Hypertension.

The Doctors then concluded that Molly Katanga requires a follow -up with a specialist ENT surgeon and monitoring of her breast symptoms which services are absent in prisons.

Through her lawyers of KAA , Katanga says having proved the exceptional circumstance of grave illness and court having previously found her 4 surities as being substantial and having proved that she has a fixed place of abode on Chwa 11 Road in Mbuya – Nakawa division, she deserves to be released on bail.

However the DPP has not yet responded to Katanga’s bail application but presiding judge Isaac Muwata maintained that he will give his ruling on the 21st/ May with or without the state response.

He has therefore allowed the state upto May 13th 2024 to file a response in the abil application.

Molly Katanga is jointly charged with her two  daughters  Martha Nkwanzi and Kakwanza Patricia who are accused of tampering with valuable evidence which would have been used in court to prove their father’s murder .

The daughters together with the family’s shamba boy George Amanyire and a nursing officer Charles Otai where each released on a 2 million shillings cash bail .
