Tea farmers from Tooro petition Parliament!

Tea farmers in the districts from Toro sub region have petitioned Parliament over falling tea prices and wants Parliament to intervene.

The team that included farmers and political leaders from the region who included LCV Chairperson Kabarole Richard Rwabuhinga met with the Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among.

The meeting was attended by the Ntoroko MP Rwemulikya Ibanda, Busiro MP Medard Lubega Ssegona the Clerk to Parliament Adolf Mwesige among others.

Speaker Among expressed concern over the complaints raised which have affected the farmers and promised to ensure that Parliament addresses them through the committee of Agriculture where the petition will be tabled.

“I have heard other farmers cutting down their tea plantations out of frustration. Parliament through the Committee on Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries will adequately address your concerns.” Among noted!

Farmers in Ankole and Kigezi have raised concerns over continued drop of tea prices on the local and regional market which has largely affected farmers. Toro region is also a tea growing district especially in the districts of Kabarole, Fortportal City and Kyenjojo District.
