Uganda Cranes Coach Micho Gets Fired

Uganda Cranes’ head coach, Milutin Sredojevic, commonly known as “Micho,” has been relieved of his duties as the national team’s coach. This was officially confirmed by FUFA (Uganda’s football federation). The announcement of Micho’s sacking was made on the evening of Thursday, September 14, 2023, through a concise statement on the federation’s website.

The statement mentioned, “Today, Thursday 14th September 2023, FUFA and Mr Milutin Sredojevic agreed to mutually end the existing employment contract between the two parties.” It also expressed FUFA’s appreciation for Micho’s dedication and hard work during his tenure as the Head coach of Uganda Cranes, with the closing remark, “It is Our Game, It is Our Country.”

This marks the second time that the Serbian coach and FUFA have parted ways. He had initially left Uganda in 2017 before returning for a second stint in July 2021 under a three-year contract. The decision to terminate his contract follows Uganda Cranes’ failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament scheduled to take place in Ivory Coast next year. They finished third in the qualification campaign, trailing behind Algeria and neighbouring Tanzania.

During the qualifiers, Uganda Cranes accumulated seven points with notable wins against Niger (0-2) and Tanzania (0-1) in away matches, as well as a draw against Niger (1-1) in Kitende. Algeria (16 points) and Tanzania (8 points) secured the first two qualification slots in group F.
