The High Court in Kampala has fixed April 9th 2024 to deliver its decision in the application in which Molly Katanga who is facing charges of murdering her husband businessman Henry Katanga is seeking bail

Molly on Wednesday appeared before Court via a zoom link connecting her from Prison to Court and applied for bail through her lawyers including Peter Kabatsi, MacDusman Kabega, Jet Tumwebaze, Bruce Musinguzi and Ellison Karuhanga.

She appeared before Justice Isaac Muwata and presented four sureties.

They included Dr Patrick Kabayo , retired civil servant and a farmer who calls her  a niece, Retired Gen Emmanuel Burundi Nyamwanisa, farmer in Nyabusozi in Kiruhura her cousin brother, businessman Geofrey Kamuntu also her cousin and  State Minister Margaret Muhanga.

The lawyers have told the Judge that their client is innocent of the charges preferred against her and it is her strong desire to prove it at the trial.

According to Molly, prior to being committed to the High Court and to her being remanded to Luzira Women’s prison, she had spent over two months at C- Care IHK Hospital where she was receiving specialized treatment and underwent five major surgeries to her scalp and her hands .

This was reportedly to address the injuries she sustained on the fateful day of her husband’s death and requires a lot of specialized post-operative care for her resuscitation, which is not available in prison.

However, the Prosecution led by Jonathan Muwaganya Chief State Attorney and Samalie Wakooli has opposed the application arguing that the sureties presented were not substantial since two of them were of advanced age.

Muwaganya said that one of the sureties Geoffrey Kamuntu is under investigations for obstructing the police from doing their lawful duty in relation to the investigations in the main case and is being investigated under SD 14/12/12/2023.

Prosecution states that Businessman Henry Katanga was shot dead by his wife Molly on November 2nd 2023 at their home on Chwa two Road in Kampala.

The Prosecution further contends that his two daughters Patrica  Kakwanzi and Martha Nkwazi  destroyed  valuable evidence that they would use to prove their father’s murder  while the family’s shamba  boy George Amanyire and a male nurse Charles Otai are charged with being accessories after the murder .

The four people were granted bail in February 2024 at two million shillings while Molly the   widow is still held on remand at Luzira women’s prison.
