Owners of growing businesses in Ugandan have been told  to improve the packaging of their goods and services  if they are to make it to the international market.

This was said by Elly Komugisha the CEO Uganda Export Promotion Board at hotel Africana at an innovation series organized by Brainchild Burson Marsteller with the aim of promoting innovation in business and public service with the theme “Packaging products for the 21st century consumer”.

Speaking during the event, Kamugisha urged SME’s against poor packaging that has had a negative impact on Ugandan products in and out of the country.

“I urge Ugandan to brand their products in a way that they will captivate the market. In this regard, they should not over or under package as this will chase away customers and reduce sales,” he said

Kamugisha also urged them on the importance of forming  groups for easy government funding which in turn will help improving in the quality of products exporeted since it is easy working with larger groups

He said “Most of the SME’s lack funding because they operate individually, have small budgets and cant produce quality with all the pressures. If they form groups it is easy for government to fund them and also easy for them to partner with large companies that will help their businesses grow in the long run.”

Additionally, he noted that the Export board was currently working with farmers and exporters to overcome challenges of poor packaging and to ensure that they can sell to big shops and to also see hoe they can be helped.
