Parliament’s Presidential Affairs Committee has recommended for the provision of additional funds worth Sh134.14b to fund Kira Motors Corporation.
This comes after the entity asked for Sh166.64b to operationalise the Jinja electric vehicle plant, but only Sh32.5b was availed in the 2024/25 budget.
Dr Monica Musenero, Minister of Science,Technology and Innovation also requested for additional funds including; Sh37b needed for the establishment of an Innovation Fund, Sh44b for the establishment of a Science Park and Sh29.83b required for the pathogen economy (manufacture of various vaccines).
The additional funds are meant to cover; construction and furnishing of the Kira vehicle plant at Sh81.5b, purchase of parts and materials for plant commission worth Shs30Bn, human capital development at Sh8b and Sh12.5b to cover operational expenditures.
