Artistes petition Parliament over media space for local content

Artists who included musicians  and comedians have today petitioned the Parliament pushing for their content to dominate the local media outlets and to be the face of brands.

The artistes want a law which demands broadcasters to publish/air and/or use 90% of the local content in a move aimed at growing and developing further the sector.

A couple of broadcasters and media owners through their body, the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), were present in Parliament and fronted to the MPs some of their concerns in regards to the demands by the artistes.

“These artistes are pushing you (MPs) to put this law in place but there are a couple of issues they need to work upon; for instance some of the artists no private or public parts; we the broadcasters are the mirror of the society and therefore we cannot be accomplice to the destruction of our society singing praises and promoting artistes who flood social media platforms with their naked pictures! The Ministry of Gender must look into this and indeed take up the mantle and demand that they behave,” said Andrew Irumba (Representative of Online Media under NAB).

Notable artists present in Parliament included among other Eddy Kenzo, Sheebah Karugi, Izon T, Coco Finger, and Anne Kansiime.
