Besigye meeting allowed at Mbarara Social Hall after exchange with Police

The former Presidential Flag bearer Dr Kizza Besigye and the FDC Katonga leaders have been allowed to access Mbarara Catholic social hall after several hours of exchange with Police.

Besigye was welcomed by a crowd of people on the streets of Mbarara town on Wednesday morning and he was accompanied by several leaders who included Francis Mwijukye the Buhweju County MP and also the treasurer of the Katonga FDC Harlod Kaija the Secretary General and Stanley Katembeya the FDC Chairman Mbarara and others.

However police in Mbarara had put blockades along the road leading to Mbarara Catholic social hall as they denied Besigye and his people entry to have their meetings. However after several engagements and bitter exchanges, police need to the pressure and allowed them to proceed with their meeting.

Police barricades

The FDC Katonga leaders are traversing several regions of the country to consult on whether to form a new political party. They started the campaign in Kira Municipality and Busoga sub region where leaders voted in favour of starting a new political party. Now the team is in Mbarara from which they will proceed to Kabale, Rukungiri, Kasese and Mityana.

It is not clear when the team will start a process of a political party formation and other details of the new political party remain scanty.
