The cultural leaders from Bugweri chiefdom have apologized for the remarks that were made by the National Unity Platform (NUP) Spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro against the Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Anita Among last week.

The statements were made at the burial of Waiswa Ramadan the young brother to Hon Abdul Katuntu, Member of Parliament for Bugweri County. Mufumbiro made statements attacking and embarrassing the Speaker of Parliament in her presence and citing allegations of corruption and purported fighting the former Speaker and her predecessor Rt Hon Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga.

Waiswa’s remarks came after Speaker Anita Among said in her tour in Buyende weeks back that there were some old women who were fighting her and wanted her out of office which many interpreted to be reference to Kadaga.

In a letter written by the 3rd Katikiro of Bugweri Chiefdom Mugwisa Mwamadi but also signed by various leaders of the chiefdom including Subcounty Chiefs and clean heads, the chiefdom apologizes for the words that were spoken by Waiswa Mufumbiro and condemned them.

“We the Ministers, Subcounty county Chiefs and clan leaders of the Menhya Wa Bugweri, we take our sincere apology on the statements made by Waiswa Mufumbiro on the burial of Counsel Waiswa Ramadan, we would like to condemn it in the strongest terms possible. As Obwa Menhya we respect and embrace all leaders irrespective of sex, age among others” the letter reads.

The monarchs also thanked the Speaker of Parliament for the 100 million Uganda Shillings donation that she sent for the construction of Bugweri District Muslim headquarters recently.

They also asked for an appointment to come to the office of the Speaker and relay their apology formerly to her face to face. They also attached the list of the delegates who will attend that said meeting.
